Normally, The Red Chair is randomly placed around the IU Kokomo campus. Anyone walking by is free to sit down, get comfy, and share their experience about IU Kokomo. The Zoom Chair helps us continue to tell our story away from campus.
Education is KEY at Indiana University Kokomo.
Description of the video:
Heaven Powers sits in her house on a zoom recording for the Zoom Chair Series at IU Kokomo. The Zoom Chair logo is on the screen as well has text introducing Heaven as a major in biological and physical sciences.
Another graphic pops on the screen asking viewers to subscribe to IU Kokomo on youtube.
Soft pop music plays in the background and Heaven speaks.
“But I realized that the dynamic of IU Kokomo is its support. You know, everybody's there to support you no matter if it's a random person you see at the library, that you know you're like "I'm not sure how to print something?" And you know, you can ask anybody and they'll help you with anything you need.
“The professors, the instructors, you know, they stay after class. You know, their phone numbers are on the syllabus. It's just something that I, you know, I realize pretty much almost immediately that if I can put my mind to it, you know, I have the support that I need.
So, you know, I see a lot of people come in, especially, I guess, your non-traditional students.
People that are older. People with kids. People that work full-time. And they're the same way I am. You know.. they're.. that I was. They're uncertain. They don't know.. you know.. how they're gonna do it.
But there are so many supports put in place and resources that anybody can do it if you try. I mean really. That's really what I think.
Because.. you know.. I have two kids.. You know.. I work on the weekends. There's people that I go to school with that work full-time, have kids, you know.. way more than I have to do, that do exceptional. You know, because of the resources we are given.
And the fact that our success is such a big... It's a big deal to everybody. I mean I feel like everybody cares about our success. So that's when I realized I could do it because we're given the tools that we need and I see other people do it.. um.. that are in.. you know.. different circumstances as well.
The IU Kokomo brand logo appears on the screen and the website, iuk dot edu is show as the screen fades to black.
