Description of the video:
Nicole Robinson, a sports and recreation management major, sits in the Red Chair in the library. Upbeat music plays softly in the background.
“My name is Nicole Robinson, I’m studying sport management,” Nicole says. “’They have sports here?’ They do. I love the sports here,” she says.
“So I’m a manager for the soccer team, so they just had their first season the Fall of 2019. Essentially what I’m doing now I’d like to do on a professional level if I could, or even if it’s not exactly managing, some type of game day operations, something in that realm so it’s preparing me for what I want to do, not only is it doing what I like and in the realm of my major, I get paid for it too, so I’m literally paid to just do what I love, and I like that a lot. You can’t go wrong with that.”
Nicole continues, “I originally went through education, I thought about some type of science, but I realized the thing I consistently had a passion for was sports, so I was like, maybe I should just work in sports then because that’s what I’m consistently comfortable and happy with.”
“The women’s basketball coach had said that there was a possible job opportunity, she wasn’t sure if I would be interested yet. But she said that I’d basically their manager, keep up with them, help out with laundry and film, make sure things are set up, help the coaches out, then she gave me the coach’s number. I texted Coach Terry and now I just absolutely love where I’m at. One text message essentially got me from not knowing much about IUK to have me feeling like I’m part of the system, I’m part of the Athletics Department and I have my own little friends and everything.”
Nicole goes on to say “I’d definitely tell them to consider checking it out. Not everyone is built for those big 30, 40 thousand student campuses, but they think they are. Their like, ‘oh yeah, I want to go to this big college because it’s my favorite one,’ but then they go on to find out that there’s way too many people, most of their classes are lectures, there’s 400 people, you don’t get to know people as well but I feel like you get to know people fairly well. I think it’s worth it.
