KOKOMO, Ind. — Celebrate the cultural, ethnic, and geographic diversity of Indiana University Kokomo, as the campus hosts its annual Culture Fest.
Set for 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, the interactive festival allows attendees to take a virtual trip around the world, through music and dancing, booths representing multiple countries, food trucks, and more, all in Alumni Hall and the Kelley Student Center.
Kate Aguilar, coordinator of student life and campus diversity, said in honor of IU Kokomo’s 75th anniversary, there will be a booth about its history — in particular, how it has fulfilled its mission of preparing students to thrive in a global society.
It’s wonderful to celebrate our amazing growth in diversity over the last 75 years,” she said. “We enhance the culture of our community, not only by educating students to be citizens of the world, but through the contributions of our international students and faculty.”
She expects to have 20 to 25 international booths staffed by volunteers, along with free entertainment, with all-new performers from previous festivals.
Music begins at 4 p.m. with a Mexican folksinger, leading up to the headline performance by a flamenco ensemble from Spain at 4:30. Bollywood Beats take the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by Ballet folklórico at 6 p.m.
Festival attendees may also purchase Indian, Irish, Italian, and Brazilian cuisine from food trucks including Lucky Indian Cuisine, Cook McDougal’s Irish Pub, Rozzi’s Catering, and Gaucho’s Fire.
The event is open to the public, and free parking is available on campus.
