KOKOMO, Ind. — The Indiana University Kokomo School of Nursing welcomed 52 future nurses to the profession in its traditional induction ceremony Wednesday (January 2).
Dean Susan Hendricks said the ceremony is reminiscent of the “capping” ceremonies held in previous decades, and serves as a welcome to the school.
In this ceremony, we both congratulate students on their accomplishments that led to their acceptance in nursing school, and we also introduce them to the professional values that we expect them to practice,” she said, such as patient advocacy, confidentiality, safety, and respect.
It’s a ceremony at the very beginning of one’s professional journey,” she said. “It serves as a milestone in their beginning career in the nursing progression, and is an opportunity for family and friends to recognize their good work.
Wearing IU scrubs, each inductee crossed the Havens Auditorium stage to receive a certificate of achievement. The ceremony ended with the recitation of the nursing pledge, a statement of the ethics and principals of the profession
