KOKOMO, Ind. — Indiana University Kokomo will be closed Monday, January 21, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The IU Kokomo Library, the Cougar Country Café, the bookstore, and the Art Gallery will all be closed. The Cole Fitness Center will be open regular hours, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Online and electronic resources are available when the library is closed, at www.iuk.edu/library.
The campus will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, January 22.
IU Kokomo and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omicron Phi Omega Chapter will co-sponsor a series of four free events honoring King.
Monday, January 21, Second Missionary Baptist Church, 819 N. Apperson Way, Kokomo, will host an ecumenical service at 11 a.m., followed by a processional to the MLK Monument, and wreath-laying ceremony. A shuttle will be provided in case of inclement weather.
Tuesday, January 22, IU Kokomo will host a celebration at 11:15 a.m. in the Kelley Student Center Commons, featuring performances by children from F.D. Reese Christian Academy, as well as musician Griot B.
The celebration continues with MLK and the Strength of Shared Dreams, a one-man, multidimensional show presented by Ron Jones, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, in Kresge Auditorium.
Finally, Second Missionary Baptist Church will host Believe in Yourself youth workshops, at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26. The event includes activities for children kindergarten through high school. This event was rescheduled from January 19 due to inclement weather.
