KOKOMO, Ind. — Indiana University Kokomo will be closed Monday, January 15, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The IU Kokomo Library, the Cougar Country Café, the bookstore, and the Cole Fitness Center will all be closed.
Online and electronic resources are available when the library is closed, at www.iuk.edu/library.
The campus will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, January 16.
IU Kokomo and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omicron Phi Omega Chapter will co-sponsor Advancing the Dream — Let Freedom Ring, a series of three free events honoring King.
The commemoration kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 13, with a presentation by State Sen. Greg Taylor, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 819 North Apperson Way, Kokomo.
Monday, January 15, Second Missionary Baptist Church will host an ecumenical service at 11 a.m., followed by a processional to the MLK Monument, and wreath-laying ceremony.
Thursday, January 18, Sarah Heath, chair of the history, political science, and philosophy department, will facilitate discussion and screening of the film I Am Not Your Negro, at 6 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.
