Bain-Selbo appreciates the opportunity to lead at a regional campus of IU.
“I was very intrigued by the idea of being able to provide a strong liberal arts education to students in this region at a public university price,” he said. “I think that’s an incredibly noble goal, and a great mission.”
He is a strong supporter of public universities because of the life-changing experience he had as an undergraduate.
“The people I’ve met here are enthusiastic about what they do, and they are committed to IU Kokomo and the students,” he said. “This is a place that is very dedicated to student learning and to what it can do for students’ lives.”
Mark Canada, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, welcomed Bain-Selbo to IU Kokomo.
“We are delighted to have Eric on our team,” Canada said. “He brings extensive leadership experience in higher education, along with a very personable manner and a great attitude."
Bain-Selbo most recently was department head for philosophy and religion at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, where he also was co-director and co-founder of the university’s Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville; a Master of Arts in Religion from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; and a doctorate from the Religious Ethics program at the Divinity School, The University of Chicago.
