KOKOMO, Ind. — Indiana University Kokomo welcomes Benjamin Liechty, B.A. ’06, as the new director of alumni relations and campus ceremonies.
Liechty began his new position Monday, October 24.
“This job is an opportunity for me to share my IU experiences with future and current alumni, while also hearing and learning about the experiences of others,” he said. “I am very excited to have the chance to reach out and work within our region, and to engage more alumni where they are.”
He looks forward to working with IU Alumni Association boards in north central Indiana, and plans to restart the Student Alumni Association, among other goals.
Jan Halperin, vice chancellor for university advancement, said Liechty’s previous IU Kokomo experience, both as a student and a professional, will serve him well in his new endeavor.
“I think it is very helpful to have a solid professional like Ben, who also has an authentic and compelling alumni story, to serve in this role,” she said. “I worked with Ben in financial aid, and was impressed by his encouragement to students to send thank you notes to scholarship donors. He understands the impact of these kinds of contacts.”
Liechty earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication arts, with an emphasis on public relations, from IU Kokomo. He also graduated magna cum laude from Argosy University, earning a Master of Science in organizational leadership.
He previously was freshman counselor and scholarship coordinator in IU Kokomo’s Office of Financial Aid. He is married to Steven Guy, and lives in Kokomo with their two Belgian Malinois dogs.
