KOKOMO, Ind. — A Peru High School student has won Best of Show in the 20th annual Indiana University Kokomo High School Art Exhibition.
Amanda Weaver, a senior, received the award for her mixed media creation, “My Downtown.”
The exhibition opened with an awards ceremony, and continues through Saturday, June 13, in the Gallery. Mike Applegate, an adjunct instructor, will host a gallery chat at noon on Saturday, May 30. He will discuss high school art and the transition to a college fine arts program.
Other award winners were Erin Miller, Tri-Central High School, best of mixed media or digital media; Grace Comerford, Peru High School, best of 3D, and Heidi Bonus, Taylor High School, best of 2D.
Honorable mention awards were presented to Alexis Coomer and Emily Shircliff, Peru High School; Molly Peterson, Taylor High School; and Blake Hinkle, Tri-Central High School.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to showcase their work, while having it displayed to the community in a collegiate-level venue,” said Tara Scott, director of the gallery.
The Art Gallery is located in Upper Alumni Hall. Admission and parking are free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
