KOKOMO, Ind. - Donating blood is one of the easiest and most helpful ways to save a life. Indiana University Kokomo’s Student Athletics and Wellness Board (SWAB) are giving the campus and community an opportunity to do so.
SWAB is hosting the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, February 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place in the Kelley Student Center, Room 130, across from the campus bookstore.
The Red Cross is planning a prize drawing for a $50 Visa gift card, awarded to a donor the day of the event. In addition, SAWB is offering a prize to the student organization that has the most members donate blood that day.
SAWB Director Brian Arwood is looking forward to the event and urges everyone to participate.
“Every two seconds, someone needs blood,” Arwood said. “Donating is the only way to help those who need it.”
Blood drive registration is January 30 and 31 in the Kelley Student Center during lunch hours or anytime in the student activities office, also located in the Kelley Student Center, room 210. You can register online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “iukokomo”.
“People aren’t aware how useful and important donating blood is,” Arwood said. “Type O blood is in high demand and is critically short in our region, and O- blood type is a universal donor and highly valuable, too.”
The Red Cross hopes to accumulate 85 or more units of blood at this year’s event.
