April 13, 2018
KOKOMO, Ind. — Put on your candy stripes and show your Cougar spirit, as Indiana University Kokomo celebrates IU Day on Wednesday, April 18.

The worldwide, social-sharing, IU-wearing, gift-giving day of engagement kicks off at midnight, uniting students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends on all campuses in a 24-hour celebration of all things IU.

IU Day begins at midnight April 18, with campus events kicking off on campus at 9:30 a.m. The Kokomo celebration includes giveaways, a selfie station, cake, appearances by mascot Kingston Cougar, and more. Off campus, Cone Palace will debut a new IU Kokomo themed flavor in honor of IU Day. Campus events continue until 4 p.m., while IU Day itself ends at midnight.

“IU Day is a special day for all of our friends, alumni, and family to remember how IU and IU Kokomo have impacted their lives, and to celebrate with colleagues all over the world,” said Jan Halperin, vice chancellor. “It’s an opportunity not only to reflect on past memories, but to consider the possibilities for future successes shaped by our campus It’s for all who love IU.”

IU Kokomo’s activities are part of a series of live events across IU’s seven campuses, entertaining virtual programming, online social and giving challenges, and alumni gatherings around the globe.

Kingston Cougar will be featured in an exclusive IU Day halftime show, along with mascots from IUPUI and the other regional campuses. The Phoenix, the campus’ first outdoor sculpture, is included in a video series of “Campus Gems,” highlighting a unique story or aspect of each campus. See them at IU Day live programming

In addition to engaging programming, IU Day features a giving component, emphasizing the message that every gift matters. Students, alumni, and friends can choose how they want to support IU by giving to a specific campus or unit fund at IU Day giving, or exploring unique crowdfunding opportunities, such as the IU Kokomo Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment, at IU Day crowdfunding Kokomo.

Campus supporters also may make a difference though social media, using the hashtags #iuday and #myiuk. Each post, retweet, or like can bring scholarship money to IU Kokomo. Social media challenges throughout the day include social-sharing contests and fun challenges like best-dressed future alum and best-dressed pet.

Additional IU Day celebrations will take place in more than 170 unique locations, domestically and abroad.

“World-class education, unique programming, and cutting-edge research are synonymous with the Indiana University student experience,” said Dan Smith, president and CEO of the IU Foundation. “What is less known is that this experience is largely dependent on private support. IU Day provides a great opportunity to celebrate IU’s present and past, while looking ahead and thinking about how we, together, can ensure life-changing student experiences for future generations.”
