IU Kokomo Union Street Art Gallery exhibition opening, 5:30 to 8 p.m., 219 N. Union Street. The exhibition features work created in collaboration with New Leaf Mentoring, and by alumni resident artist Libby Kimbrough, who will discuss her work at 6 p.m. 

Saturday, January 6

IU Kokomo basketball, 1 p.m. women’s game, 3 p.m men’s game . vs. IU Northwest, at Cougar Gym, 507 E. Superior St., Kokomo. Admission is $5 for the public, free for IU Kokomo students, faculty, and staff with a Crimson Card, and free for children 12 and younger.

Second Missionary Baptist Church, 4 p.m., 818 North Apperson Way. District 33 State Senator Greg Taylor will speak as part of the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life. Free.

IU Kokomo Observatory open house, 7 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting), 2660 S. Washington St. Free. 

Monday, January 15

IU Kokomo closed for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Second Missionary Baptist Church, 11 a.m., 818 North Apperson Way. Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an ecumenical service, processional to MLK monument, and a wreath laying ceremony. Free. 

Thursday, January 18

IU Kokomo Kresge Auditorium, 2300 S. Washington St., 6 p.m. Screening and discussion of I Am Not Your Negro facilitated by Sarah Heath, Ph.D., Chair of History, Political Science, and Philosophy. Free.
