Nellis looks forward to working at IU Kokomo because of its emphasis on student success.

“I am impressed with the reputation of the faculty and administration for their support of all students during their higher education experience. That is important to me,” said Nellis.

One goal is to partner with area schools to identify potential future teachers and encourage them to explore the field of education. By doing that, she said, the School of Education will continue to fulfill the need for excellent teachers in north central Indiana.

“We can encourage high school and even middle school students who have an interest in education, and working with youth in general, to understand the profession, and show them the rewards and the benefits of a career and a profession in education,” she said.

Mark Canada, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, welcomed Nellis to IU Kokomo.

“Dr. Nellis comes to IU Kokomo with many years of leadership experience, as well as an impressive background in grant funding and assessment,” he said. “I look forward to seeing her take our already strong School of Education to new heights.”

Nellis previously was associate professor of school psychology and Ph.D. program director of training at Indiana State University.  She began her career as preschool special education coordinator/psychologist for the Grant County Special Education Cooperative in Marion.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychological sciences and sociology, with a minor in organizational leadership, from Purdue University; a Master of Arts in School Psychology from Ball State University; and a doctorate in school psychology from Ball State University.

Indiana University Kokomo serves north central Indiana.
