“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be part of Cougar athletics,” said Wagner, who served as a volunteer assistant coach in the previous season. “I love the game. I have a strong passion for it, and a desire to teach different techniques and philosophies to players.”

Athletic Director Greg Cooper said Wagner’s leadership and skills will be a great asset to the team.

“Julie’s background as a certified golf instructor and as a successful women’s college coach was the perfect fit for the future of the women’s program,” he said. “She has an excellent background in running collegiate golf tournaments, which was on display this spring when we hosted our first home tournament for both teams.”

Wagner’s team consists of four incoming freshmen and five returning athletes, including seniors AnneMarie Balsbaugh, Lela Crawford, and Bailey Troutman.

“Next season, we are going to be a very well-rounded team, and we’re going to have a lot of depth on our roster,” Wagner said.

Wagner was the first head women’s golf coach at Indiana Wesleyan University. During her four years coaching there, her teams won six tournament invitationals and were runners-up seven times. All four years, she had individuals and teams qualify for the NCAA National Tournament.

She is a Licensed Golf Teaching Professional through the United States Golf Teachers Federation, and holds a W.G.C.A Certified Professional Golf license.

Wagner is a four-time Howard County women’s golf champion, and has been tournament director for the last nine years. She is an active member at the Cougar’s home course, Wildcat Creek Golf Course, directing women’s leagues, tournaments, and camps.

Indiana University Kokomo serves north central Indiana.
