June 15, 2017

KOKOMO, Ind. – Nicole “Colie” Trawick has been selected as the next head coach of the women’s basketball team at Indiana University Kokomo beginning with the 2017-2018 season.

“I am very excited for Colie to join our team. She is the last piece of the puzzle to finalize our athletic staff. Colie brings a passion and energy that is contagious. She will fit in well with our current team. Her wide array of experiences in coaching, service to others and admissions brings with it a unique set of skills that will only help our young team thrive,” Athletic Director Greg Cooper commented on the addition of Trawick.

Also excited about “What drew me to IU Kokomo was the opportunity to inherit a solid program which comes with a whole new set of challenges. I’m looking forward to building a positive culture alongside a consistent winning women’s basketball program,” Trawick said of her new position.

Trawick, a former two-sport collegiate student-athlete, comes to IU Kokomo with collegiate coaching experience at NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NAIA, NJCAA as well as high school levels. This vast array of coaching familiarity provides Trawick with a range of experiences that she plans to bring to the Cougars.

“I bring a wholesome approach to coaching. I’ve become the coach I’ve always wanted to encounter and that’s due to my past opportunities and experiences over the years.”

Most recently, Trawick was the head coach at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass. There, she increased the win total from the previous season. This reinforcement of a winning attitude helped her lead the Warriors to Conference Championship Runner-Up where she had one of her players (Monica Knight) earn All-Region Tournament honors. This same player as well as a pair of others also received conference accolades that same year.

Her 2014-2015 season was spent at the University of Arkansas Monticello as the assistant coach of the women’s basketball team. Her team experienced their first winning season since 2008-09 and won their first ever post-season tournament game since joining the Great American Conference.

Trawick began her coaching career as a graduate assistant turned assistant coach at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri. At CMU, Trawick specialized in coaching guards, scheduling, developing video scouting reports and recruiting. That season, the team jumped out to its best start in school history at 16-1, going on two eight-game win streaks, and finished the year with a 25-8 overall record.

Her resume also includes coaching periods at Burlington County College, Pemberton Township High School, and S.J. Boro Blitz (N.J.).

During her collegiate career Trawick was a standout two sport athlete in both basketball and soccer. She received her bachelor’s degree in communications from Belhaven University in 2010. She later earned her master’s degree in education and athletics administration from Central Methodist University in 2014.

Trawick is looking forward to implementing her style of play to the Cougar team that went 21-13 (14-7) before welcoming her to the helm, “Our style of play will be entertaining-- Lots of movement, combinations and hard-nose pressure both offensively and defensively.”
