Art Gallery features work by area high school artists

May 26, 2016
KOKOMO, Ind. — The Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery showcases the work of talented high school juniors and seniors in the 21st annual High School Exhibition.

The exhibit, which opened with an awards ceremony on Wednesday (May 25), includes work by nearly 50 students, from Kokomo, Maconaquah, Tri-Central, and Peru high schools. It continues through Saturday, June 11, in the Gallery located in Upper Alumni Hall.

Tara Scott, gallery director, encouraged people to see the work created by the area students.

“I am a huge proponent of allowing students to shine and giving them an opportunity to display their creative talents,” she said. “This is an opportunity for them to exhibit their work outside their own schools and to see what their peers are creating.”

Six students received $50 awards for the best entries in their category. They included Christian Howell, Peru, best 3D; Robert Holz, Kokomo, best painting; Siriyakorn Pimpitkanueng, Peru, best drawing; Kelsey Schmidt, Tri-Central, best mixed media; Isaiah Fritz, Peru, best photo/digital media; and Sebastian Soldi, Peru, best photo.

Honorable mention was awarded to Christa Skinner and Chase Ogle from Peru High School, and Madison LaMott, Katelyn Bilby, and Kinsey Leininger, Tri-Central High School.
