May 4, 2015

KOKOMO, Ind. — A record number of 633 graduates will be celebrated at Indiana University Kokomo's Commencement, as IU President Michael A. McRobbie will confer 637 degrees.

The ceremony begins a tradition of an indoor ceremony, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center, with Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke presenting the graduating class.

More than 40 percent of the graduates are first-generation college students. They represent 31 Indiana counties, two states, and 10 countries. Fifty-four students are earning master’s degrees. Another 570 are earning their bachelor’s, while 13 will receive associate degrees. Some students earned more than one degree.

The School of Nursing has the largest number of graduates, with 177 earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The second most frequent degree being awarded is the Bachelor of General Studies, with 66. This brings the grand total number of graduates from IU Kokomo to 13,083.

Student body president Brian A. Arwood will represent the graduates as class speaker. Arwood, from Peru, is graduating with a degree in nursing.

The move to the Kokomo Event Center allows Commencement to take place in the same location, regardless of weather, without requiring tickets. Ceremonies are open to the public.

Free parking is available at the Event Center, 1500 North Reed Road (US 931 North) or at the Ivy Tech Community College campus, 1815 East Morgan Street, with shuttle service available starting at 11 a.m.. Commencement can be viewed via live streaming on the campus website at iuk.edu.
