Students from Indiana University Kokomo showcase what they’ve learned in the annual Student Art Exhibition. It includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, metalwork, ceramics, digital mixed media, and graphic design work created this academic year.
For Colton Frew, featured as a graduating senior, the show is the culmination of four years of hard work and studies.
“Actually seeing it displayed in the gallery, it makes me feel good about my work, and how I’ve grown artistically,” said Frew, from Kokomo. “It makes it real that Commencement is just around the corner.”
A new media communications major, he’s included examples of his graphic design work, along with paintings, representing his fine arts minor.
Mark Thompson, also a new media communications major with a fine arts minor, selected five photo sets and five silk screens for his part of the show. The Peru resident is proudest of his silk screenings, because he had never made one before enrolling at IU Kokomo.
“That is a skill I learned from the ground up here,” he said. “Without the skills I gained throughout my time at IU Kokomo, I would not have been able to create these pieces. I’ve definitely become better at what I do.”
Additional fine arts minors participating in the show are Jessica Stern, Delphi; Kirby Bott, Marion; and Mary Katheryn Dudley, Sharpsville.
Other student artists include Alyssa Radel, Bloomington; Allison Wimmer, Fairmount; Lori Brubaker, Flora; Kelsie Smith, Galveston; Brandon Wieder, Hamilton; Brittnee Collins, Jamestown; Alexandria Abney, KeiAnna Anderson, Cat Bolinger, Brielle Griffith, Jennifer Hecht, Rachelle LaMonde, Ruth Paul, Ellie Russell, Mary Shrock, Kelsie Smith, Katrina Sutherland, Sarah Swoverland, Ayelech Tsegaye, Samantha VanWinkle, Abby White, Abby Workman, Susan Zody, Kokomo; Ellie Russell and Ashley Taylor, Logansport; Bethany Hemrick, Raelee Puckett-Sharpless, Peru; Courtney Johnston, Russiaville; and Libby Kimbrough, Tipton
