When she earned the opportunity to curate an exhibit for the Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery, that interest factored into its theme, Metamorphosis.
“I’ve always like to see how everything changes, whether it is slow change, or a quick change,” said Brubaker, who is the Gallery intern. “It’s interesting to see each individual artist’s take on that theme.”
Metamorphosis is now open through March 14 in the Art Gallery, in Upper Alumni Hall. The exhibition includes photography, paintings, prints, and sculpture, created by local and national artists.
Brubaker developed the exhibit from concept to opening, sending out a call for entry, selecting pieces from photographs submitted by artists, creating a publicity postcard, and choosing locations for the artwork as it arrived.
As a Bachelor of Fine Arts student, the experience prepares her for her dream career, working in a gallery and creating her own work for shows and to sell.
“Now I have a better understanding of what goes on when a gallery organizes a show,” said Brubaker, from Flora. “It has given me experience I wouldn’t have had otherwise, and allowed me to see how a show works from the inside.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission and parking are free.
