KOKOMO, Ind. — Indiana University Kokomo celebrates the installation of Susan Sciame-Giesecke as its seventh chancellor with a week of events, culminating in a ceremony on Friday, September 12.
The week’s festivities kick off at noon Monday, September 8, with a campus open house until 2:30 p.m. Highlights include touring the new medical imaging technology lab, which includes a 3D 4D ultrasound machine; and the new education curriculum lab.
Also Monday, the campus will highlight diversity, showcasing the talents and stories of students, staff and faculty. Those attending are encouraged to wear ethnic attire. The diversity activities are funded in part by the new Diversity Initiative Fund, and the generosity of retired faculty members Herbert Miller and Allen Safianow. On Tuesday, the celebration moves to Foster Park for a community picnic following a run/walk/bike from campus. Those participating should register at 10:30 a.m. in Alumni Hall to sign a waiver and receive a wristband and T-shirt. Groups will depart for Foster Park in groups between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
Shuttle transportation for those who do not want to bike, run, or walk will also be available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The picnic runs until 1 p.m.
On Wednesday, the campus celebrates the research and creativity of its faculty, with an art exhibition and research reception in the Art Gallery. Come enjoy a wine and cheese reception from 4 to 6 p.m., with an opportunity to view artwork created by faculty, and learn about the latest research.
Thursday, enjoy a free tailgate from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and then cheer for the Cougar volleyball team as it takes on rival IU East at 7 p.m. in the Cougar gym. Student Activities and the IU Kokomo Alumni Association are tailgate sponsors. Admission to the game is $5.
The week culminates with the installation ceremony for Chancellor Sciame-Giesecke, at 1:30 p.m. in Havens Auditorium. A reception will follow in Alumni Hall.
All events are open to the public.
