"This is recognition that we are achieving great things here at IU Kokomo," said Chancellor Michael Harris. "We took deliberate, intentional actions to bring in the best students and graduate them in a timely way, with a world-class degree."
The Student Success Discount Tuition initiative is in its pilot year. The 40 participating students commit to taking 30 credit hours per year, and earn larger tuition discounts for each year completed. The discount starts at 20 percent sophomore year, 30 percent junior year and 40 percent senior year, for a total discount equivalent to one year's tuition.
The initiative earned national recognition in December 2011, when James Merisotis, president and CEO of the Lumina Foundation, highlighted it in testimony before the Higher Education and Workforce Training Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives education and work force committee.
Harris said the tuition discount fits in with IU President Michael McRobbie's vision for regional campuses. He is proud of the efforts of faculty and staff to develop and implement new paths to academic excellence and student success.
"We need innovative and bold solutions to graduate all of our students on time, with a quality degree," he said. "We are a campus of choice, and we are going to be on the cutting edge of graduating students."
