As president, Barnes will work with other officers to make resources available to college advisors, to help them be more effective in their jobs. They also provide opportunities for academic advisors to collaborate among themselves and share best practices.
"Our advisors are focused on helping our students achieve success in their classes at IU Kokomo, and working with them so they can graduate in a timely manner," Barnes said. "We are proud of what we accomplish, and, of course, what our students accomplish."
The IAAN is a group of professionals from colleges and universities whose focus is to foster the personal and professional development of its members. Academic advisors assist students in planning a successful path to completing their degree.
"Being part of the network helps us develop our skills and learn new strategies to help our students succeed," Barnes said.
Other IU Kokomo advisors elected to state office are Kelli Keener, secretary; Carlos Zapata, membership and nominations chairman; and Shantelle Estes, central Indiana regional representative.
Indiana University Kokomo serves north central Indiana.
