KOKOMO, Ind. – For 20 years, hundreds of people have kicked off the holiday shopping season with a visit to Indiana University Kokomo’s Annual Arts and Crafts Show. This year, the traditional event will take place on Saturday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Kelley Student Center.
Nearly 90 vendors will be in attendance to showcase their products. All crafts featured in the show must be handmade. Vendors complete an application process and a committee comprised of five Staff Council members then juries the submissions.
Sponsored by IU Kokomo Staff Council, the committee selects a variety of products from vendors across the Midwest. Popular booths include Lera Rhode’s rugs, Phyllis Martin’s three-dimensional photos, Catherin Cupps’ quilts, Cathy Beatty’s candles, and Rachael Heiber’s soaps.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, Staff Council has many special activities planned for the day.
“Santa Claus will be there to pass out candy canes to the children, Kingston the Cougar will show up to greet our visitors, and the IU Kokomo Crescendos will provide live music for our visitors to enjoy,” said Cathy Archer, chair of the craft show committee. “We wanted to have some extra fun this year to spice it up.”
Each attendee will receive a raffle ticket to win a door prize donated by a participating vendor.
The event is free and open to the public. Staff Council asks that visitors bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Kokomo Crisis Center.
The proceeds from booth rentals will benefit the Staff Council’s scholarship fund for IU Kokomo students.
The cafeteria will remain open on Saturday to accommodate the craft show’s visitors and vendors.
