KOKOMO, Ind. – Come join Indiana University Kokomo for food and fun as they kick off the opening of the women’s intercollegiate athletics program with a tailgate party on Sunday, August 28, at 12:30 p.m. at Northwestern High School. The IU Kokomo Cougars will take on Vincennes University at 2 p.m.
Leading the Cougars in their first season is Coach Kristen Snoddy, a senior lecturer in English, who previously coached at Northwestern. Coach Snoddy said the team is more than ready to take on the Trailblazers.
“We have been working hard since the beginning of June, and we are very ready to begin our season and see where we stand,” she said. “The support from the community and the campus has been wonderful. There is definitely a buzz outside the campus and I really think we’re going to have a great crowd.”
The inaugural women’s volleyball team consists of 10 student athletes: Krista Armstrong, Bunker Hill; Liz Barney, Wabash; Lael Burrus, Denver; Payton Landseadel, Tipton; Jenna Pelling, Michigantown; Brittany Royer, Rossville; Shelby Spall, Kokomo; Emily West, Peru; Rachael Williams, Kendall, Wisc.; and Alex Wylie, Bunker Hill.
The IU Kokomo Alumni Association, sponsor of the tailgate party, will give a free gift to the first 50 alumni who arrive to cheer on the Cougars. The Windmill Grill is catering the event, and music will be provided by local DJ Kevin Boucher. Attendees should bring their own seating.
The tailgate will be alcohol and tobacco free. ß
