Continuing Studies degrees to remain at Kokomo campus

June 2, 2011

KOKOMO, Ind. – Indiana University Kokomo today (June 1) announced that the Kokomo campus would continue to offer General Studies degrees and the ACCELerated Evening College, despite a recent announcement by IU that it will dissolve its statewide School of Continuing Studies.

The Continuing Studies program at the Kokomo campus encompasses the associate and bachelor’s degree programs in General Studies that provide higher education alternatives for non-traditional students.

“The General Studies degree program is a very popular degree for the adult students in our region,” said Susan Sciame-Giesecke, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. “We have many success stories of adults who returned to school to earn an important academic credential to move forward in their careers. We are committed to continuing to serve the higher education needs of these students, and the general studies degrees, in particular.”

Regional campuses, like Kokomo, have the autonomy to choose an appropriate course of action regarding continuing studies degrees and programs based on local needs and campus recommendations.

The Division of Continuing Studies degree programs at IU Kokomo include an Associate of Arts in General Studies (A.A.G.S.), and a Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.). The needs of non-traditional and other students are met through flexible learning arrangements made possible through evening, hybrid, and online course offerings.

Indiana University Kokomo serves north central Indiana.
