KOKOMO, Ind. – Indiana University Kokomo Chancellor Michael Harris has appointed Jack Tharp as interim director of athletics to lead the new club sports program coming to campus this fall.
“I am excited to serve in this role and look forward to working closely with the coaches and students to ensure a successful athletic program,” said Tharp, who also serves as vice chancellor of student affairs. “Chancellor Harris appreciates the value of intercollegiate athletics and what it can bring our university.”
The campus recently announced adding club sports to student activities this fall semester – offering competitive men’s basketball and women’s volleyball with an eye on joining the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) by fall 2012.
“We are excited to introduce athletics as a dimension of student life,” said Chancellor Michael Harris. “We believe that this move will add spirit, a sense of community, enthusiasm, and pride to our campus. It also will bring community involvement.”
