KOKOMO, Ind. –A group of radiography students at Indiana University Kokomo recently took first place in a statewide quiz bowl competition, and now will head to Florida for a nationwide contest in the spring.

IU Kokomo's Team X-Posed, comprised of Erika Boyd, Will Day, Leslie Schumacher,Emily Casper, alternate, and Coach John Hughey, brought home a first-place plaque and traveling quiz bowl "Bowl" trophy to campus. Each member of the team also received a First Place Medal.

"We were so excited about our first-place win and the chance to represent IU Kokomo," said Boyd. "Now we can't wait to go against teams nationwide and show them how much we know! This confidence we need to compete at a national level."

There were nine teams competing at the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists Annual Meeting Quiz Bowl. Second place winners were from IU South Bend, and third place was IUPUI. Other schools that participated include Ivy Tech Marion, Ball State University, and St. Vincent in Indianapolis and Anderson.

The quiz bowl consisted of two rounds of questioning in which the team had to concur upon their answers with a 15-second time frame. After the tally sheets had been turn, there was a tie between IUPUI and Ivy Tech Marion, and a speed round garnered IUPUI third place.

In addition to the trophies and medals, the team received $120 toward their spring trip to the West Coast Educators Conference in Orlando, Florida; where they will be competing against students in radiography programs from across the United States.

"I am very proud of these students and the efforts they make in learning about their major. I have no doubt they will do an excellent job at the national competition this spring," said Hughey, clinical assistant professor of radiography and director of the radiography program. "It is also a reflection of the dedication and commitment of the Allied Health Sciences faculty and staff to provide quality education to these students."
